America's Best High Schools
Nine Schools - Compact Members - from the Pittsburgh Region Make the List
U.S. News & World Report has released its 2008 list of America’s best high schools, and nine regional schools—members of the Pittsburgh Regional Compact—have been nationally recognized for their excellence. As such, these Compact member schools are providing excellent preparation for post-secondary education and for careers after graduation to today’s students—tomorrow’s regional workforce.
The list of the very best schools is complied in collaboration with School Evaluation Services, a K – 12 education and data research and analysis business run by Standard & Poor's, and is based on the key principles that a great high school must serve all its students well, not just those who are bound for college. The school must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes to show that it is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators. The 2008 list was compiled following a review of academic and enrollment data from more than 21,000 public high schools nationwide. The top schools were placed into gold, silver, bronze or honorable mention categories.
