The Career Speakers Initiative
The Career Speakers initiative is a joint effort between the Allegheny Conference on Community Development and the United Way of Allegheny County to encourage more members of the Pittsburgh workforce to get involved in the lives of our region's youth as they explore jobs and careers in our area.
In one hour, you can reach out to 25, 50, or more young people who might be considering a career path just like yours. Discuss how you become involved in your line of work, walk them through a typical day at your job, and talk about how a young person can prepare now for a career like yours. Help them to connect what they're learning in school now with what you do at work, and increase their awareness of what opportunities await them after high school.
Joining the Compact
Join the Compact by simply filling out the quick online form. Be sure to check "Classroom Speakers" as an opportunity interest! Once you've submitted the form and are accepted, Compact staff will reach out to you with more information on how you can get involved as a Career Speaker.
The Career Speakers Video
Depending on the nature of your job, perhaps it's been awhile since you've been in a classroom or interacted with a group of young people. Utilizing tips and experiences from real Career Speakers, the video serves as an informative tool to share basic information and answer any initial questions you may have about being a Career Speaker. Compact staff is available to address any further questions or concerns.
